To see why the ratios \( 4:5 \) and \( 8:10 \) are equivalent, we can use the concept of multiplication. If we multiply both parts of the ratio \( 4:5 \) by 2, we get \( 8:10 \). This demonstrates that both ratios represent the same relationship between two quantities. Visualizing this as slices of pizza, if 4 slices out of 5 are eaten, the same proportion holds if you have 8 slices out of 10! Another fun way to look at it is by using a visual diagram, like a scaled rectangle. If you draw a rectangle representing \( 4 \) sections for width and \( 5 \) sections for height, you can then draw another rectangle with \( 8 \) sections wide and \( 10 \) sections tall. Both rectangles will maintain the same shape and proportions, confirming the equivalence of \( 4:5 \) and \( 8:10 \).
