Show by means of calculations whether the percentage increase is correct or not. It is projected that the South African population will increase by \( 17,045 \% \) from (3) 2022 to 2030 . Determine the projected South African population in 2030

South Africa’s population is written in full numeric form as 62,000,000. The difference between the population in 2011 (51.7 million) and 2022 (62 million) is 62,000,000 - 51,700,000 = 10,300,000. To determine if the population increase of 19.8% is correct, we calculate it as follows: The increase is \( 51,700,000 \times 0.198 = 10,253,600 \). Adding this to the 2011 population gives \( 51,700,000 + 10,253,600 = 61,953,600 \), which is quite close to 62 million, validating that the percentage increase is indeed approximately correct. For the projected population in 2030, we calculate \( 62,000,000 \times (1 + 0.17045) = 62,000,000 \times 1.17045 = 72,553,900 \). Therefore, the projected South African population in 2030 is approximately 72,553,900.
