The heart is divided into four chambers: the right and left atria (upper chambers) and the right and left ventricles (lower chambers). The atria receive deoxygenated blood from the body via the vena cavae (right atrium) and oxygenated blood from the lungs via the pulmonary veins (left atrium). Once filled, the atria contract to push blood into the ventricles. The right ventricle then pumps the deoxygenated blood to the lungs for rejuvenation, while the left ventricle sends oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body's tissues.
