On the other hand, the second sentence, “Tonight, I helped my mom cook,” is a complete sentence and does not fall into the run-on category as it conveys a clear action with a subject.

When identifying fragments, remember they often miss either a subject or a verb. For instance, “Running late again!” feels like a panic shout but needs more to stand as a full sentence. Keep an eye out for shoes without laces—those are your fragments!

For run-on sentences, think of them as trains that just keep going without stops. They can be fixed by adding a period, semicolon, or conjunction to create separate ideas. A classic example: “I love ice cream I eat it every day” becomes clearer if we split it up.
