The integumentary system is our body’s first line of defense against temperature extremes! It includes our skin, hair, and nails, and plays a crucial role in thermoregulation. When we’re too hot, sweat glands in the skin release sweat, which evaporates to cool us down. Conversely, when it's cold, blood vessels constrict to retain heat and keep us cozy. The muscular system also assists in heat conservation and loss, especially through shivering. When you're cold, your muscles contract rapidly, generating warmth, whereas during exercise, your body's heat production increases due to muscle activity. So, not only do your muscles help you move, but they also keep you warm and toasty!
